“430i” is not a complete description

Start with the body you want: coupe, Gran Coupe or cabriolet. A model badge alone can leave you comparing cars that solve different problems. Ask for the exact body style and look at the side, rear opening and roof in the actual listing photos.

BMW Canada lists separate 4 Series body styles and model variants. Its current range is useful for understanding the names, but it does not prove the equipment of a used model from an earlier year. Keep the model year and VIN beside every specification you compare.

Try the access and luggage space you will use

For a coupe, try getting into the rear seats and loading your usual bags. For a cabriolet, ask to see the roof operate and inspect the luggage arrangement with it both raised and lowered. Tell the dealer what you need to carry so the appointment answers a practical question.

Check xDrive against the equipment record rather than assuming every Canadian BMW has the same drivetrain. Ask separately about the fitted tyres and any winter wheel set included in the sale. Neither a badge nor a spare set of wheels establishes their present condition.

Use Vaughan as a starting point, not a coverage promise

Our participating Canadian inventory reviewed for this guide included 430i, 440i and M440i listings in Vaughan, north of Toronto. The current examples show the physical dealer location and odometer in kilometres. They update with the catalog and are not a list of every 4 Series for sale in the Greater Toronto Area.

Before crossing the GTA for a viewing, send the VIN, confirm the car is physically available and agree on the checks you want to make. If the exact model has sold, use the same body-style and equipment requirements to evaluate a replacement.

Ask what “certified” means for this VIN

BMW Canada describes a specific BMW Certified program with inspection and warranty conditions. A listing’s generic certified label should not be treated as proof that this car is enrolled in that manufacturer program.

Ask for the certification documents, original in-service date, warranty provider, covered components, exclusions and remaining time or kilometre limit. Request the actual terms in writing. Compare those answers with service records, the history report and an independent inspection, not just with the word “certified.”

Make the appointment useful

“I’m interested in VIN [VIN]. Please confirm the body style and drivetrain, current odometer in kilometres, fitted options and whether it is enrolled in BMW Certified. Please send the warranty terms and available service records. Is it at your Vaughan location, and can I inspect [specific requirement] during the visit?”

When you compare quotes, ask for the total and each charge in Canadian dollars for your intended registration location. Keep the purchase terms separate from a trade-in or financing proposal so you can compare the cars on the same basis.
