Choose where the children will sit before choosing the trim
Three child seats plus a stroller is a layout problem. Start with two possible arrangements: three children across the second row, or two in the second row and one in the third. Each needs a permitted installation, usable access and room for the luggage you carry.
An eight-seat specification does not prove three-across fit. NHTSA says not every car seat fits every vehicle. Bring your actual restraints and check the vehicle and car-seat instructions before committing to a particular layout.

Three across and two-plus-one need different tests
For three across, check each intended seating position in both manuals. Confirm the permitted installation method, required anchors and access to the buckles. A cabin-width measurement cannot establish that all three restraints can be installed correctly together.
For two-plus-one, work out how the third-row passenger enters, how you reach them and whether an adult can help with the harness. Ask which seat movements are allowed with the chosen restraint installed. Do not assume a showroom demonstration with empty seats will work after your installation.
Use a qualified child passenger safety technician when you need installation help. A dealer can show you the vehicle and arrange a viewing. A sales claim that it is “great for three kids” is not an installation assessment.

Put the stroller in with the third row still in use
Set every seat you need in its traveling position. Load your folded stroller, diaper bag and normal shopping or trip bags. Check the hatch opening, the space behind the third row and whether anything blocks the route to a child.
Maximum cargo volume with seats removed or folded answers a different question. If a child will ride in the third row, a photo of a completely flat load floor will not show your everyday luggage space.
Ask the dealer to photograph the cargo area with the required seats raised before you travel. At the viewing, try your own items in the parked vehicle and follow the manual’s loading and cargo-securing instructions.
Check the seats that come with the sale
On a used van, ask whether every removable seat, head restraint and supplied seating component is included. An eight-seat model with its center seat missing is a different shopping proposition from the photographed complete layout.
Keep the exact model year and powertrain in the conversation. The reference table deliberately names its years. A different year, a different seat package or a plug-in version needs its own manual and equipment check.
For the 2026 Odyssey, Honda lists lower anchors in all second-row positions and the third-row outboard positions, with tether anchors across both rear rows. That is useful information to bring to a fit check, not proof that your chosen three seats fit. Do not transfer this anchor map to the other vans.
