Eight seats and a removable eighth seat are different things
For the US 2026 Pilot, Honda lists a fixed second-row middle seat on Sport and captain’s chairs on TrailSport. EX-L, Touring, Elite and Black Edition have a removable second-row middle seat that can be stored in the rear cargo area.
That means “eight-passenger Pilot” does not by itself answer whether you can remove the middle seat. For a used or demonstrator car, also confirm that the removable seat is physically included. A correct trim badge cannot tell you where a loose seat ended up.
| 2026 Pilot trim | Second-row middle position | What to ask for |
|---|---|---|
| Sport | Fixed middle seat | Full second-row photo |
| TrailSport | Captain’s chairs, no middle seat | Seven-seat layout photo |
| EX-L, Touring, Elite, Black Edition | Removable middle seat | Seat present, fitted and demonstrated |

Ask for two layouts, not twenty front-seat photos
For a Pilot with the removable seat, request a photo with it fitted and another showing the aisle with it removed. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the approved removal, storage and refitting procedure at the appointment.
Then look at the cargo area with every seat you plan to use upright. Storage for the removed seat and space for your luggage are practical checks to make together, especially if you alternate between seven and eight passengers.

An aisle does not settle the child-seat question
Bring the actual child restraints and the people who use the back seats. Check installation positions against the vehicle and child-seat manuals. A removable centre seat does not guarantee three-across fit or access with restraints installed.
If adults will use row three regularly, have them enter and sit there with the second row in its normal position. Do not judge it only with the front and middle seats pushed unusually far forward.
Put the seat requirement in the first message
“I need a 2026 Pilot with the removable second-row middle seat. Is that complete seat included with VIN [VIN]? Please send the second-row photos and confirm I can try my family’s seating arrangement before deciding.”
Open a Pilot below for its gallery. “Ask for second-row photos” takes you to the form for that car. The examples are current 2026 listings, not a certification of their removable-seat contents.
