Yes, if charging fits a routine you can actually keep
A private home charger is not the only way to charge an i4. BMW Canada describes shared condo charging and public Level 2 and DC fast charging. The buying question is whether you have reliable access when you need it, not whether a charger appears somewhere on a map.
Before choosing a car, identify a regular charging location and a separate backup. Visit them at the time you would normally charge. Check access, parking rules and whether waiting there fits your week. If both depend on a single busy charger, the plan needs work.
| Possible routine | Find out first | A weak plan looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Shared condo charger | Permission, booking, billing and overnight rules | A proposed installation with no confirmed date |
| Workplace charging | Who may use it and what happens on days off | Your only option disappears when work changes |
| Nearby public Level 2 | Access hours, parking limits and walk home | A charger inside a closed or restricted car park |
| Public DC fast charging | Compatible station, account and backup site | One station with no alternative on your route |

Get the building’s answer before ordering equipment
Ask the property manager or condo board what is already available to your parking space, what approvals are needed and who controls installation and billing. A socket in a parking stall does not establish that you are authorised to use it for EV charging.
Natural Resources Canada identifies building decision-making and infrastructure assessment as real barriers in multi-unit housing. Have the building and a qualified installer assess the proposed equipment. Do not buy an adapter or assume an outlet conversion is a simple fix.

Ask what comes with this i4, not what came with one when new
Request a photo of the charging port, the included portable charging equipment and every supplied adapter. Have BMW confirm approved connector and network compatibility for the exact model year and VIN. Do not assume every i4 has the same port or can use every Tesla Supercharger.
Ask for an AC charging demonstration and, where practical, a compatible DC charging check. A screenshot showing a high battery percentage does not establish battery health, charging performance or the equipment included in the sale.

Run your normal week through the plan
Write down your regular journeys, when the car is parked near charging and what you would do if that charger were unavailable. Add a winter or longer-trip alternative. Avoid treating advertised range or one charging-time example as a promise for your route.
The examples below focus on used 2023–2025 Canadian i4s, for which we found dealer photographs. Open a car and send: “Here is my charging routine. Please confirm this VIN’s compatible connectors, included equipment and charging operation. Can you show those items at a viewing?” If the routine is still uncertain, solve that before committing to the car.
